Reading Time: < 1 minute

The University of South Wales (USW) has launched “The Psych Sofa”, a podcast series hosted by Dr Klara Price, a developmental psychologist.

Dr Price is a chartered member of the British Psychological Society and leads the USW BSc (Hons) childhood development course. Inviting guests to “The Psych Sofa”, she will lead discussions on how psychology changes lives for the better through the lens of psychology academics and their work.

Episodes will discuss how the three key ingredients of research, policy, and practice interlink and develop shared understanding across six areas: addictions, women’s reproductive health, mental health and physical activity, educational well-being, USW’s early intervention service, and health and housing.

Dr Dan Bowers, head of psychology at USW, said, “Psychology impacts everything around us and this podcast will be of interest to a range of listeners. I am very impressed with how my colleagues have brought this together and who better to host than Dr Price, who has a real passion for learning and loves getting involved in different projects that can add value to people’s lives.

“Klara has been involved in research completed in partnership with external organisations such as Linc Cymru (exploring elderly residents’ engagement in social activities within extra care settings), Children in Wales (evaluating Community Hubs as a way to reduce barriers to accessing education among children living in poverty and low-income households), and Platfform (evaluating their well-being programme for pupils aged 13–16). Klara is also an advocate for bringing real-world issues into the classroom.”

The first episode in the series features the co-founders of USW’s addictions research group and their vital work on alcohol-related brain damage, which is caused by long-term alcohol consumption.

Episodes will be released fortnightly as video podcasts on YouTube, as well as on the usual podcast apps.
