4 Ways to Celebrate World Environment Day on 5th June

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In honour of World Environment Day on 5th June, greetings card company thortful has shared its sustainability journey, detailing their top initiatives to ensure that they are looking after the planet and to inspire other businesses to take greener steps.

Things to do to celebrate World Environment Day

  • Head to your local park or beauty spot and pick up trash while you enjoy the great outdoors.
  • Switch to a plant-based diet for the day, or make a commitment to try Meatless Mondays – it’s not just for Instagram. In fact, switching to a more vegan-friendly diet can have a great impact on the environment, and can reduce your carbon footprint from food by up to 73%.
  • Plant a tree. Deforestation is a real threat to climate change and natural environments around the world. Do a little bit to help this World Environment Day, and plant trees in your garden, or donate to the World Land Trust and fund a tree being planted elsewhere in the world.
  •  Check your carbon footprint, and find out ways you can reduce your environmental impact.

The stats so far

thortful has prevented 22.3 tonnes of carbon from entering the atmosphere.

And along with the other projects it funds through Ecologi, the trees planted have removed 210 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere. That’s the equivalent of 100 economy flights from London to Beijing.

In addition to the partnership with Ecologi, thortful also has other eco-initiatives to help the environment.

All thortful cards use vegan inks, and all cards are 100% recyclable. thortful also uses Royal Mail and DPD, the top two eco-friendly couriers in the UK. All cards are printed on the UK’s mainland, not printed overseas and flown into the UK because it’s cheaper.

Ecologi x thortful

The World Environment Day 2024 theme is all about land restoration and preventing desertification and drought, with the slogan: “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.”

Since partnering with Ecologi, thortful has helped fund various projects around the world, alongside other eco-conscious businesses.

The initiatives have helped plant over 1,930 trees in all corners of the world, including Kenya, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Senegal, Ecuador, Morocco, and Peru.
