In the top position is The London Eye, with 1,582 mentions of the sunset in its reviews. Located on Westminster Bridge Road, the observation wheel offers a breathtaking birds-eye view of the capital city, where viewers can watch as it becomes engulfed in warm hues when the sun sets, perfect for the ideal snap.

However, it’s not only London that offers top sunset views. Edinburgh’s Calton Hill ranks fourth on the list with 422 mentions of sunset. It may require a bit of a climb but, taking the time out from Edinburgh city centre will be worth it, as the view is truly breathtaking.

Ideal for those summer evenings, Brighton’s Palace pier ranks eighth on the list and offers the best of both worlds. Not only do you get all the fun and amusement of a seaside holiday, but you can also finish your day off with one of the UK’s best sunset views.

Beyond its social media popularity, studies also suggest sunsets can have positive benefits on mental health, being the perfect moment of escapism each day.

Eoin Keenan, the founder of Goodrays, said: ‘The sun sets each evening, giving you an opportunity to take a step back from the stresses of everyday life and appreciate the world around you. Watching the sunset can inspire you to get outside into nature, to refresh the mind and recentre your thoughts.

‘Not only that, research has shown the sunset may also have positive effects on your mood, being known for relieving stress, increasing happiness levels and satisfaction with life.’
