The u3a radio podcast offers a vibrant collection of stories and anecdotes, celebrating the creativity and activities of its members. Launched in 2020, the podcast highlights the incredible breadth of experiences within the u3a movement, presenting interviews with members, interest group leaders, Trustees, national volunteers, and Subject Advisers. This unique platform is both created and operated by a dedicated team of u3a members, many of whom bring professional broadcasting experience to the project.
Since its founding in 1982, the u3a movement has built a thriving community of over 400,000 members, offering a rich array of activities and non-formal learning opportunities. The podcast adds to this legacy, providing engaging content not just for cosy winter evenings but for listeners all year round.
Peter Clift, the editor and announcer for the past year and one of the original members of the u3a podcast team, reflects on its evolution: “Since its inception during the pandemic, the u3a podcast has continued to be run by members for the members of u3a. Many of the team are former professional broadcasters, and each month, u3a members share their often exciting and unusual stories, encouraging others to enjoy the many benefits of the movement.”
Jo Watson, another key member of the podcast team, shares a similar sentiment: “Since we started the podcast, we’ve discovered so many talented individuals and diverse groups. Featuring them in the podcast not only entertains and inspires our members but also attracts those yet to join, helping them discover all that u3a has to offer while we learn a few things ourselves!”
