6 Things to Consider Adding to Your Skincare Routine

A good skincare routine can help keep your skin in the best condition possible, which makes having a skincare routine customised to your skin type critical. You only get one chance to care for your skin, so it is essential to do it right. Focusing on too many products, or even using the wrong product, can wreak havoc on the skin and do irreversible damage. And the best time to start a stellar skincare routine is now! It is never too late to show your skin some love. 

So, where is the best place to get started? Washing your face and using the right products, coupled with probiotics for clear skin, can make all the difference in your skin’s texture. It can also help keep things like acne and wrinkles at bay.

Wash your face every night

For day-to-day use, picking a facial sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 is ideal. If you spend a lot of time outside, shoot for SPF 60 or higher. Not using a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects you from UVA and UVB rays can result in wrinkles, age spots, and even skin cancer. In the United States alone, more than 5.4 million skin cancers are diagnosed each year, with more than 2,000 of these cases resulting in death. Using the proper skin protection is imperative for maintaining the health of your skin and body. 

Retinoids are key

Retinoids are an excellent addition to anyone’s skincare routine. Retinoids are derived from vitamin A and can reduce dark spots, breakouts, and fine lines by increasing skin-cell turnover. Retinoids are loved by many but should be used with caution in individuals who have susceptible skin as they can cause dryness, peeling, and redness. Retinoids also make your skin extremely sensitive to sunlight, so using a higher SPF sunscreen or just staying out of the sun entirely is essential. But be sure only to use your retinoid at night. 

Say yes to moisturisers

While some may believe that moisturisers can lead to breakouts, moisturizing can really make a massive difference in your skin. Moisturising the skin on your face, neck, and chest is essential for providing soft, glowing skin. As mentioned above, it is important that your moisturizer contains some form of SPF. In the mornings, using a lighter moisturizer immediately after showering and washing your face allows for ample absorption. This will trap some of the moisture from the water, adding even more hydration to the skin. At night, use a thicker night cream.  

Visit the dermatologist 

Even if you have perfect, glowing skin, having a dermatologist you visit at least once a year is vital in maintaining your healthy skin. Annual skin checks should take place by your dermatologist to check for spots from head to toe that may look concerningly similar to an area that could turn into skin cancer over time. These appointments will also allow your doctor to sample or biopsy any spots that may look concerning. Together, you and your doctor can also devise a treatment plan based on their findings. Also, because of the high number of changes your skin can experience over a year as a result of sunburns, rashes, and moles, an annual visit will allow your doctor to track any suspicious changes that may have taken place. 

You only have one chance to take care of your skin, so it is crucial to treat it right! Adding annual dermatologist visits, moisturisers, retinoids, sunscreen, proper face washing, and probiotics for clear skin will take your everyday skincare routine to the next level.
