Job description: Institute of Media and Creative Industries, Loughborough University London, Fixed-term position from 2 October 2017 to 1 October 2022
The Institute of Media and Creative Industries are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work with Dr Emily Keightley on the Leverhulme-funded research project, “Migrant Memory and the Post-colonial Imagination (MMPI): British Asian Memory, Identity and Community after Partition”.
This post offers a fantastic opportunity to be part of a long-term cutting-edge interdisciplinary research project. Coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the Partition of India, this groundbreaking work responds to the urgent need for research which captures cultural memories of Partition in the British Asian community. This research addresses how community identities, including a sense of Britishness, are produced and articulated by South Asian people in the UK through cultural practices and social processes of remembering the 1947 Partition of India.
The successful candidate will make a primary contribution to the development and delivery of the project, working closely with the Principal Investigator and seven other members of the project team as well as with key external partner organisations and the local community.
The successful applicant will be an experienced researcher with postgraduate training and a background in sociology, anthropology, media/communications/cultural studies, history, or a cognate discipline. They will have experience in qualitative methods. They will need to be highly technologically literate with excellent communication skills. Applicants should possess a good honours degree combined with a masters in a relevant subject. A PhD is preferable.
Informal enquiries should be made by email to Dr Emily Keightley, Reader in Media and Memory Studies, Department of Social Sciences, Loughborough University, e.keightley@lboro.ac.uk
