About Deborah Beriro, LMHC
Deborah was born in Spain, grew up in both Palm Beach and Connecticut. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University in Washington, DC, with a double major- International Studies and Art History. After living and working in New York and Paris, she returned to Palm Beach, which she has always considered home. She eventually went back to school and received her Master of Science Degree in Applied Psychology and Mental Health Counseling from Lynn University in Boca Raton FL.
Deborah has extensive knowledge of and has worked with clients with substance abuse issues for many years. She is highly skilled at working with comorbid and co-occurring disorders that often accompany, are exacerbated by, or are masked by substance abuse issues.
Using an eclectic approach, Deborah uses DBT (dialectical behaviour therapy), CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy), motivational interviewing, and mindfulness approaches to help clients find relief from depression, anxiety (general, social, situational, etc.), and OCD, among others. Deborah is also skilled in helping recently divorced parent(s) co-parent in healthy ways, which in turn will create a healthy and optimal environment to raise happy and well-adjusted children.
By being skilled in multiple therapeutic approaches, Deborah aligns with her clients with care and compassion while still managing to challenge them so they can grow. When working with substance abuse issues, she helps families correct or avoid the co-dependent behaviour that can be so detrimental to the family and deadly for the addicted family member. Deborah also works with clients that are struggling with a relationship, transition, and spiritual issues. She looks at the big picture when addressing clinical issues and is able to help by often thinking out of the box with her treatment approach. Deborah is fluent in Spanish, French, and English.
