Rebecca Owens, PhD

Rebecca Owens, PhD is a lecturer in psychology at the University of Sunderland. She is a chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

She has worked in higher education since 2009, firstly alongside studying her PhD before gaining a full-time position in 2017. Her PhD focused on evolutionary perspectives on male competitive behaviour, which led to an interest in male psychology. Alongside evolutionary psychology and male psychology, she has a long-standing interest in body modifications.

Rebecca is currently on the committee of the Male Psychology Section of the BPS and has designed, developed, and led the first undergraduate psychology module with the support of the section. She sits on the editorial board of Psychreg Journal of Psychology.
