Sustainable travel in Germany is gaining fresh momentum as the family-run SANDcollection expands its eco-conscious portfolio with the opening of SANDglow, an adults-only boutique hotel in Husum. As the newest member of the Green Pearls network, the property reinforces a commitment to environmentally responsible hospitality along the North Sea coast.
The former THOMAS Hotel has reopened following a full relaunch led by Juliette and Tim Müller, the next generation of the Müller family. With SANDglow, the family brings its distinctive “SAND spirit” of sustainability, conscious living, and regional loyalty to a new location, creating a link between its North Sea and Baltic Sea properties.
SANDglow emphasises sustainable design through recycled materials, fair trade partnerships, and regionally sourced products to reduce its environmental impact. The adults-only policy, open to guests aged 16 and above, ensures a calm retreat for travellers seeking relaxation in Husum, known for its maritime charm and dunes.
The hotel features 56 rooms, a regional breakfast concept, a bar, and the SANDglow Feel Well Spa, offering treatments focused on wellness and renewal. The breakfast menu highlights seasonal ingredients from local producers, strengthening regional connections and reducing food miles.
The Müller family’s first property, SANDnature in Timmendorfer Strand, has been part of the Green Pearls network since 2015. Built on the philosophy of “SAND Aspires Natural Design,” SANDnature combines modern comfort with ecological awareness, using natural and recycled materials such as reclaimed teak wood. Its 75 rooms and suites reflect coastal influences, while operations prioritise renewable energy and partnerships with local suppliers.
Since 2023, SANDnature has supported Whale and Dolphin Conservation initiatives, including porpoise protection, and its outdoor areas feature native plants and sand flooring that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
Both hotels represent the SANDcollection’s vision of uniting sustainability, design, and hospitality. Founded by Marion and Lambertus Müller, the collection remains a family endeavour focused on responsible tourism and community engagement.
