The Mix, the UK’s leading digital charity for under-25-year-olds, is thrilled to announce Owen Wood as its new ambassador. Owen, a 21-year-old from St Albans, captured the hearts of many as the winner of the 2024 BBC TV series Race Across The World, alongside his best friend, Alfie. During the show, he bravely shared his personal struggles with mental health and anxiety, inspiring many viewers with his openness and resilience, as well as highlighting the strength of his friendship with Alfie.

Owen will be lending his time to The Mix, a charity that reaches over 6 million young people each year, offering free, confidential, and anonymous support on a wide range of issues, from mental health and relationships to finances and housing. Through its website, phone services, and social media platforms, The Mix connects young people to experts and peers, providing a non-judgmental space for them to seek help and advice.

Owen expressed his excitement about joining The Mix, stating, “The opportunity to work with The Mix came up and I couldn’t say no, as they are a great outlet of information and support for young people who may need help and advice. This is exactly the kind of initiative I would have benefited from when I was younger and having struggles with anxiety, school, and overall life, so to be a part of this and be able to help others who are in the position I was in is something I take great pride in.”

Born in Watford and raised in St Albans, Owen is not only a television star but also a trainee commercial pilot, showcasing his ambitions alongside his passion for travel. As an ambassador, he will be advocating for young men to speak out about their mental health, encouraging them to have regular check-ins with their friends and sharing his own experiences with anxiety and challenges he has faced while growing up.

He will also be the first guest on The Mix’s soon-to-launch podcast and participate in their ongoing street interview series, among various other exciting partnered content to be announced.

We are very excited to welcome Owen to The Mix family,” said Amy Cowley, Head of Marketing and Communications at The Mix. “His experience and dedication to mental health awareness align perfectly with our mission to support and empower young people. Owen’s story and commitment to our cause will inspire many and help us reach even more young people in need.
