Megan Forsythe is making waves in the world of healthcare and patient support. The Megan Louise Sands Foundation, established in 2014, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to offering hope, resources, and empowerment to individuals who have undergone ostomy surgeries and face the challenges of living with a stoma.

Megan recently took the stage to tell her incredible story at an international medical conference, Wild on Wounds, this past September 13th–16th, 2023, in Hollywood, Florida. The conference served as a platform for healthcare experts from around the world to share knowledge, insights, and advancements in various medical fields.

The Foundation is a beacon of hope for stoma patients and their loved ones. This non-profit organisation is committed to providing invaluable support and resources to help individuals regain their independence and confidence.

The foundation’s mission is threefold:

  1. Empowerment. The Foundation empowers individuals with stomas to regain their self-esteem and self-worth. Through various programmes, workshops, and educational resources, the foundation equips them with the tools to lead fulfilling lives.
  2. Education. The Foundation believes that knowledge is power. With the help of a local ostomy nurse, the Foundation offers a wealth of information about living with a stoma, including guidance on care, hygiene, and emotional well-being. Megan and her team are committed to dispelling the myths and taboos associated with ostomy surgery.
  3. Community. Living with a stoma can be isolating. The Megan Louise Sands Foundation strives to create a supportive and understanding community where individuals can connect, share their experiences, and find comfort in knowing they are not alone on this journey.

Megan Forsythe shared: “We want to support ostomates throughout the length and breadth of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas to live their lives without limitations. One of our goals is to raise funds in order to financially provide ostomy supplies for the many ostomates here in the Bahamas through our Patient Assistance Programme. It costs, on average, $4,200.00 annually for supplies for one person.”

The Megan Louise Sands Foundation is actively seeking donations and partnerships to expand its reach and enhance its impact on the lives of stoma survivors. Megan’s vision and dedication are poised to make a significant difference in the world of ostomy care.
