Max Guttman, LCSW touched so many lives in so many different ways. Through his own personal struggles with mental health, he managed to carve out a wonderful and fruitful career as a social worker, a therapist, an innovator, a collaborator, a founder and operator of a mental health private practice, a writer, an author, a public speaker, and a mentor. His professional accomplishments were not simply markers of success but reflections of a deep personal commitment to making the world a better place for those who often felt unseen and unheard.

Max genuinely cared about people and their struggles in life, even though it was not always easy for him to do so. He understood that empathy required strength, and he summoned that strength repeatedly. When others faltered, Max was there to offer his support, to lend a hand, and to advocate tirelessly on their behalf. He never talked down to people but rather met them where they were, with kindness and respect. He embraced the idea that healing begins with acknowledgement, and he made it his mission to work with individuals in their most vulnerable moments, never turning away from their pain.

He was unafraid to speak his truth and discuss the issues that mattered most to him. In a world that often rewards silence, Max chose to be vulnerable. He shared his journey openly, allowing others to feel less alone in their own struggles. Like every human being, he had moments when he missed the mark, when life overwhelmed him, and when defeat seemed near. Yet each time, Max rose again. His resilience, his determination to live the best version of himself, and his refusal to be defined by setbacks made him a shining example of human perseverance.

Max also found immense joy in celebrating the successes of others. It was not enough for him to achieve his own goals; he wanted those around him to succeed as well. He enthusiastically promoted other people’s work, products, services, and projects, always with a genuine cheer that came from the heart. His encouragement lifted others up, creating ripples of positivity that extended far beyond what he could see.

For me personally, Max was more than a professional colleague; he was a dear friend and a brother in spirit. I am profoundly grateful for the six years of friendship, collaboration, and brotherhood we shared. I deeply appreciate the autonomy and creative support he provided me as a collaborative partner within his private practice. His guidance as a supervisor and mentor was invaluable, helping me to grow both professionally and personally. Our fellowship, whether over the phone or in person, is something I will always treasure.

Max, thank you for being a source of light in my life and in the lives of so many others. Your kindness, your passion, and your unwavering belief in the power of community have left a lasting impact. You have left behind a beautiful legacy – a true labour of love – that will continue to inspire and uplift others for years to come.

May you forever rest in peace, my friend and colleague. May the Lord bring comfort and peace to your family, your friends, and all those who have been touched by your incredible life and work.
