Every afternoon after work, I always notice that the children around our neighbourhood are gathering to play. Hearing their laughter, with the same old games being played, brings back the good memories of my childhood. Recalling our positive memories helps to promote a more positive outlook in life, despite the different challenges that we experience each day.

Positivity doesn’t always refer to simply smiling and looking cheerful. But positivity is more about one’s overall perspective on life and their tendency to focus on all that is good in life.

Having a positive mindset means making positive thinking a habit, continually searching for the silver lining and making the best out of any situation you find yourself in.

Practise these few tips to promote positive thoughts:

  • Control your thoughts. If you begin to feel anxious or down, create a happy thought out of your negative thoughts. Remember how happy you were with friends and family. Negative thoughts will surely go away.
  • List down your goals in life. Recall how you started your journey on the path to where you are now. There might be a lot of circumstances, but don’t give up on the reasons why you started, continue achieving your life’s goals
  • Take time to relax. Prioritise your ‘me time’, including on your schedule that you will take time to visit your favourite salon, watch movies on Netflix, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee alone. Doing things on our own gives us the chance to reflect on life.
  • Be happy. Consider each day as a brighter beginning. If things didn’t work out the way you planned the other day, think of the next day as a new beginning to start all over again.
  • Love yourself more. Loving yourself is the best way to develop positivity in life. There might be negativity, but this doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy our life.

Positive affirmations refer to repeated statements, often spoken or written down, to help inspire confidence and optimism. Set aside a few minutes each morning to say a series of five positive statements about yourself. Affirmations should stay in the present tense, only include positive words, and state a fact or truth. Some examples can include ‘I’m good enough’, ‘I can accomplish anything I put my mind to’, ‘I have the confidence to face my fears’, ‘I trust myself in making good decisions’, or ‘I’m healthy and happy.’

Happy and positive people are those who think about what they want to achieve in life and find the best ways to achieve their goals. Developing positive thoughts can truly change your entire life’s perspective. Moreover, the positive things that happened in our lives remind us that, even though negative things are happening, still we should not be affected. Life is a gift that we should enjoy through its ups and downs with our friends and family.
