What is hairline lowering?

Hairline lowering is a kind of hair transplant carried out by hair transplant experts in order to address problems with high foreheads. Also known as forehead lowering, this process does not reduce the forehead but is practical for moving the location where the headline of the patient starts. It lets you advance your frontal hairline up to a certain extent or distance depending on your preference or as advised by a doctor. Variables like scalp laxity and hairline height, as well as your preference, may affect the distance.

Who can undergo hairline lowering?

Hairline lowering is suitable for people who have flexible forehead skin. Women are the most ideal candidate for these hair transplant procedures, although men with thick hairline are also perfect candidates for hair lowering as long as they have no hair loss history. Women with large foreheads and large hairlines are also considered as the ideal candidates for hair transplant to lower hairline.

What are the procedures to lower hairline?

Hairline lowering has two main procedures that doctors use. Surgical hairline advancement and hair grafting are the two main procedures and will differ depending on one’s needs and the cost that comes with each procedure.

In a surgical hairline advancement procedure, surgery is performed by an authorised and trained doctor on the patient’s forehead. This includes surgically getting rid of a part of the skin by as much as 5cm from the hairline. This shortens the forehead and at the same time allows the hairline to move forward while the excess skin is taken out by incision. After which, the incision is stitched and closed. This procedure can leave a scar on your forehead. A hair grafting procedure can conceal the mark.

Another procedure to lower hairline is hair grafting. This alternative method follows the removal and grafting of hair on the front of the hairline.  This can also be a different procedure which helps in the reduction of a large or high forehead.  Hair grafting is performed by experts who increase the layers of the hair on top of one’s natural hairline that is non-surgical.

Before you decide to undergo the process you should consult your doctor about this or do some research. Check the risk and precautions that you should take in. Anti-inflammatory medicines can hinder recovery from hairline lowering procedures thus you need to avid this as much as possible. Salty food and alcohol should also be avoided in order to prevent swelling and fluid retention.
