The Fenway Institute in Boston, Massachusetts invites applications for a one to two year HIV and/or LGBTQ Studies postdoctoral research fellow position under the direction of our Co-chair and Medical Research Director Dr Ken Mayer, which can also include a joint appointment in the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.C. Chan School of Public Health or in the Department of Population Medicine of Harvard Medical School, depending on the applicant’s prior training, research experience, and interests.

The Fenway Institute (TFI) is the research, policy, and education centre of Fenway Health, the largest LGBT health-focused community health centre in the US, providing primary care for more than 30,000 people, with more than 2,200 people living with HIV. The successful candidate should be capable of conducting multivariable analyses to address questions related to health disparities experienced by PLHIV, those at risk for HIV, and LGBTQ people, using data from the electronic health records of Fenway Health, and shared data resources from collaborative data based projects, including CNICS and NA-ACCORD, funded by NIH, HIVRN funded by AHRQ, and ADVANCE, funded by PCORI. Preference will be given to candidates with a history of demonstrated extramurally funded HIV and/or LGBTQ research.

This is a full-time position and the appointment will be for one year, with the option to renew for a second year. It is hoped that in the course of the programme, the fellow will initiate applications for independent funding from the NIH and other federal funding sources. ​

​Job Requirements:

• PhD, ScD or equivalent degree in Social or Behavioural Epidemiology, or Health Services Research, or MD or other clinical degree with advanced training in Public Health (e.g., MPH or MS in Epidemiology or Clinical Effectiveness Research
• Demonstrated skills in research, with a strong commitment to an academic career as a researcher
• Track record of,​or strong potential for,​independent extramural funding
• Demonstrated cultural competence in working with underserved, HIV ​-infected and/or high risk,​and/or LGBTQ, and culturally diverse populations
•  Experience working with community-based service organisations is preferred
• Bilingual and/or bicultural background is desirable

Responsibilities:

• ​Analyse data from existing data resources at Fenway Health, under the mentorship of the Medical Research Director of The Fenway Institute​
• Develop an​ independent program involving ​clinical/translational HIV/LGBTQ research
• Work closely with the existing research activities at ​TFI and either HSPH or the Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School​, and other collaborative opportunities, such as community service delivery programmes
