Courgette bread recipes have experienced a surge in popularity among home cooks seeking ways to create them in their own kitchens. Recent data reveals that searches for courgette bread have increased to over 14,500 monthly queries, with searches for courgette bread recipes reaching 4,400 across Canada.

It’s a simple, quick type of bread with a sweet flavour profile, created as a delicious recipe to use up the summer squash, much like banana bread. 

The mixture includes grated courgette, flour, sugar, eggs, oil, butter, and various spices, such as cinnamon and nutmeg. 

Considering the current season is almost at its peak, experts at food box delivery company Chefs Plate have shared three additional twists on the original recipe to experiment with. 

Spices and nuts 

This versatile baked good can be enhanced with various spices to add depth and flavour. Cinnamon is a classic spice often used in this recipe; however, ginger, vanilla, and cardamom go particularly well with these ingredients. 

Chopped nuts, such as walnuts and almonds, can add crunch and a nutty richness to the mixture. They’re also a common addition and complement the moist texture of the bread. 

Chocolate 

Take your courgette bread to the next level with the addition of chocolate chips. Not only will this offer a burst of sweetness but the chocolate will melt throughout the mixture to create that perfectly gooey dimension that elevates every bite. 

Cheese 

If you’re looking for a savoury twist on this bread, then look no further. Enhance the classic recipe by incorporating different cheeses to reduce the sweetness and provide additional complexity to your bread. Think beyond cheddar. Use grated parmesan or cheddar for a richer taste. Bake the bread to perfection, allowing the cheese to melt into a luscious, gooey delight.
