In today’s fast-paced world where everyone is chasing something and nobody is interested in stopping for a second even to catch a breath, sleep has become one of the most underrated things. Underrated, not in the sense that no one knows its significance but that most of us neglect it nonetheless. To demonstrate its importance it is enough to say that, for a human being to live and function sleep is paramount. But what is often ignored is the difference between sleep and enough sleep. Some sleep is often enough to live and function. But for happiness and well-being, enough sleep is required. 

Today, many of us are struggling with a range of issues from lack of concentration to weakness of the immune system, memory problems, and much more. Constant sleep deprivation can have so many negative impacts on our health and increases the chances of heart diseases, cancer, diabetes, and much more. The solution however is pretty simple, get enough sleep. Simply put, optimum health is not possible without getting enough sleep.

Studies have found that sleep deprivation is one of the most significant yet neglected public health problems. In the case of the working class, it becomes even more chronic. Insomnia or sleep deprivation is the reason why so many people are cranky around us. Today, everyone is busy and often makes the ends meet at the expense of their sleep. On the surface, it seems negligible but the sleep debt builds on and its cumulative effect can be disastrous. The number of people getting enough sleep is very slim which is one of the reasons we rank so low on the happiness index. An exhausted person is never a happy one and can’t focus on anything. This is why a good night’s sleep is stressed before an important exam or an interview.

The human body needs a sound sleep after a full day of activity to recharge itself. Experts often agree that 6–7 hours of sleep is enough to raise the depleted level of bodily energies to optimal levels. The timing is critical but often subjective. For some 6 hours is enough to recharge the body others may take less or more for the same job.

Enough sleep is so important that its deficiency negatively affects the whole human life. Therapists have often found a lack of sleep due to busy work hours behind mood and relationship problems. Poor work performances and accidents are also usually the result of inadequate sleep. Depression, which is so common today in people of all ages is due to a lack of sleep for several reasons. 

Many people think that napping can be a substitute for healthy sleep habits. They are wrong. Napping or power naps can be beneficial in the short term but are in no way capable of substituting regular good night sleep patterns. Lack of sleep disturbs the life so much that it ultimately leads the person to the doctor who recommends hormones like MK-677 to improve the sleep quality. However, the effects of hormones can be difficult to maintain as they tend to dissolve away amid the plethora of chemical processes occurring in the body.
