Testing and regulatory consultancy Broughton has unveiled Tox HQ, a cutting-edge, data-driven online tool designed to simplify toxicology assessments. This platform enables companies to securely submit products for toxicological review, allowing Tox HQ to handle the evaluation process.

The system functions as a chemical repository, storing vital information such as chemical properties, hazard assessments, health-based guidance values, and toxicological data. It also assists in creating mixtures and formulations, streamlining risk assessments of individual components as well as combinations. By doing so, Tox HQ helps clients save valuable time and money.

Originally designed for e-cigarette product evaluations, Tox HQ now covers all of Broughton’s areas requiring toxicological assessment, including nicotine, pharmaceuticals, and medicinal cannabis. Customers can review the system and control access to their product data, with an option to “blind” chemicals to ensure confidentiality.

The tool offers a real-time comparison of ingredients with safe usage levels, delivering comprehensive risk assessments. Its “quality by design” feature allows users to adjust ingredient levels to improve safety profiles, enhancing product development.

“With Tox HQ, we can now offer quicker delivery to our customers,” said Dean Hatt, Senior Toxicology Consultant at Broughton. “By proactively populating the system with verified toxicology information, it can generate a toxicology profile at the press of a button. This significantly reduces lead times and creates substantial savings for clients.”

Tox HQ currently houses a repository of over 400 chemicals from the nicotine, cannabis, and pharmaceutical sectors. Its ability to integrate customer report templates further extends its usability, allowing companies to generate a wide range of toxicology reports using existing system data.

Tox HQ could soon be connected to Broughton’s Lab HQ platform, which would make it easier to do extractables and leachables (E&L) assessments by connecting product materials with chemicals and degradants. The system offers benefits throughout the entire product development process, from initial formulation assessments to final regulatory submissions.
