Brits Offered the Chance to Win Their Dream Wedding Amid Ongoing Cost of Living Crisis

The latest National Wedding Survey commissioned by leading wedding planning website Hitched.co.uk shows that the average cost of a wedding in the UK now sits at £18,400, an increase of more than £1,000 than the year prior.

Newlyweds didn’t set out to spend this much, though, with almost half of those surveyed (47%) revealing that they had gone over their original budget. The survey of more than 2,400 newlywed couples also shows that friends and family had a huge part to play in the financing of weddings last year, with 63% of couples relying on financial gifts from friends and family to pay for their wedding.

The remaining costs were covered using their savings accounts (59%) or current accounts (42%), with 40% opting to pay their vendors in cash payments along the way. Few couples opted to go into debt to pay for their weddings last year, with less than a fifth (18%) using existing credit cards to pay for supplier services, while only 11% took out loans or opened up new credit cards (9%) to cover costs.

To help couples struggling to plan the wedding of their dreams amidst the ongoing cost of living crisis, the wedding experts at Hitched are giving couples across the UK the chance to win their dream wedding worth up to a whopping £25,000.

What’s included in the prize?

The winning couple will be able to choose up to 10 different wedding suppliers from the Hitched Directory, and all costs will be covered up to £25,000 by Hitched. To be in with a chance of winning this incredible prize, nearlyweds must sign up to Hitched by 29th February 2023. (Ts&Cs apply).

Zoe Burke, leading wedding expert and editor at Hitched, says: “After the enormous success of our competition last year, I’m so excited that we’re able to run our ‘Win Your Dream Wedding’ competition on Hitched again in 2024.

“We’re in an ongoing cost of living crisis, which can make affording the perfect wedding challenging for some couples, so to be able to offer one lucky couple an incredible £25,000 to spend on the wedding of their dreams is really special.

Our winners from 2023, Kayleigh and Ryan, were able to move their wedding forward by three years and scale up lots of their celebration plans thanks to our prize money, and I can’t wait to see who gets to do that this year!”

Zoe Burke adds: “At Hitched, we match hundreds of thousands of couples with over 21,000 different dream wedding vendors every year. The free and easy to use wedding planning tools, inspiring content, and expert advice help couples every step of the way, from proposal planning to post-wedding life.

“We understand that times are tough right now, so we are offering this competition as a way of giving one lucky couple the chance to have their dream wedding without worrying about the rising cost of living.”
