The Kent Mental Wellbeing Awards, organised by Mind in Bexley, celebrate individuals and organisations that actively promote mental well-being. At this year’s event, Bedfont, a medtech company based in Harrietsham, was honoured with a “highly commended” status for its efforts in fostering a supportive work environment and prioritising employee mental health.

With over 47 years of experience in designing and manufacturing medical breath analysis devices, Bedfont has long been committed to ensuring a healthy work-life balance for its employees. A key part of this commitment is the company’s Wellbeing Warriors team, which works continuously to offer initiatives that promote a positive workplace culture.

Jason Smith, CEO of Bedfont, emphasised the importance of mental wellbeing within the company. “At Bedfont, mental well-being is at the core of everything we do. We understand that when our employees feel supported and empowered, they thrive, not just professionally but personally as well.”

The Wellbeing Warriors at Bedfont organise a variety of activities, from stress-reducing workshops to healthy breakfasts and lunches, all designed to promote a balanced and supportive work atmosphere. They also provide guidance and practical solutions for employees facing challenges, creating a network of support that extends beyond the workplace.

Although the company narrowly missed out on winning the top award, being ‘Highly Commended’ at the Kent Mental Wellbeing Awards highlights the significant impact Bedfont has made in prioritising employee mental health.

Claire Dadswell, Bedfont’s well-being manager, expressed her pride in the recognition. “The well-being team are delighted to have been awarded the Highly Commended status for our efforts in workplace. This recognition reflects our commitment to creating a workplace where every individual can thrive, feel supported, and bring their best selves to work each day. Together, we continue to build a culture of care, balance, and well-being.”

The Wellbeing Warriors remain focused on supporting employees by encouraging them to take breaks, participate in activities, and disconnect from work temporarily, ensuring mental clarity and reducing stress levels. Bedfont continues to set an example for how companies can integrate mental health into the core of their operations, proving that a healthy workplace is a thriving workplace.
