In a commendable effort to enhance employee well-being, Bedfont, a med-tech company based in Harrietsham, Kent, actively participated in Joe Wicks’ inaugural Movement Hour on Wednesday, 5th March 2025. This initiative, spearheaded by renowned fitness coach Joe Wicks, aimed to promote physical activity within workplaces across the UK by encouraging employers to allocate an hour during the working day for employees to engage in physical activities.

Bedfont has long been an advocate for employee well-being, emphasising a healthy work-life balance. The company’s participation in the Movement Hour aligns seamlessly with its ongoing initiatives to foster a supportive and health-conscious work environment. Employees, whether working remotely or in the office, were encouraged to utilise the hour to engage in physical activities of their choice. Suggested activities included taking a walk, going on a bike ride, visiting the park with children, or assisting the garden committee in preparing the Bedfont Wellbeing Garden for spring.

Jason Smith, CEO at Bedfont, remarked: “We believe that a healthy workforce is a happy and productive workforce. Taking part in Joe Wicks’ Movement Hour is a fantastic way to reinforce our commitment to employee wellbeing and encourage staff to be more active throughout the day.”

In the lead-up to the Movement Hour, Bedfont’s communications and content coordinator, Jemma Carter, was invited to speak on BBC Radio Kent. She shared insights into how the company embraced the movement and the anticipated positive impact on employees. The discussion underscored the significance of incorporating movement into the workday and how small changes can substantially improve overall health and morale.

Bedfont’s dedication to employee health is further exemplified by its Wellbeing Warriors team, established to ensure staff can participate in activities designed to reduce stress and enhance the workplace environment. Initiatives have included stress-busting activities, virtual coffee mornings, and the creation of a wellbeing garden – a tranquil space for employees to relax and de-stress.

The company’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. In October 2024, Bedfon received “Highly Commended” status at the Kent Mental Wellbeing Awards, recognising its commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace.

With the success of the Movement Hour, Bedfont plans to continue prioritising health and wellbeing in the workplace. The company intends to encourage staff to incorporate more movement into their daily routines, reinforcing the belief that such initiatives contribute to a happier, healthier, and more productive workforce.

Joe Wicks’ Movement Hour has garnered significant attention nationwide, with over 600 companies signing up to participate. Wicks’ initiative underscores the importance of integrating physical activity into the workday to improve mental health and work-life balance.
