Run annually since 2011, the Service User Academia Symposium brings service users together with their counterparts and allies in academia. The broad aim is to explore the challenges of – and opportunities for – creating and maintaining service user leadership and co-production in mental health and addiction scholarship, research, education, programmes and policy.
The Service User Academia Symposium welcomes anyone involved with, interested in, or aspiring to create co-produced and/or service user-led projects or programmes in mental health and addiction.
Date: Thursday 15th & Friday 16th November 2018.
Location: The University of Melbourne’s FBE Building, 111 Barry Street Carlton VIC 3053
Registration will open from June 2018.
Call for Abstracts
Want to contribute to an inclusive, progressive and vibrant event that welcomes critical perspectives, values the knowledge that has been gained from experience, and values the perspective this knowledge brings to scholarly work?
Applications for abstracts are now open, and are encouraged for the following:
5-minute ‘Ignite’ session – An ‘Ignite’ session is a 5-minute slide presentation comprising 20 slides x 15 seconds each. Use this format if you’d like to re-invigorate your presentations by trying something new. If you’re a first time or white-knuckle presenter, this short format approach may also suit. Each slide should be a picture or photo that expresses something about what you want to say. Examples of this approach can be found here. Ignite sessions will be programmed so that 6 x 5-minute Ignite sessions are presented back-to-back (30 minutes) with 30 minutes of discussion time to follow.
30-minute paper – This format allows you 20 minutes of presentation time, followed by 10 minutes for questions from your audience.
Pow-wow session – The ‘Pow-wow’ is a one-hour themed presentation. This format gives you the opportunity to organise and curate a themed panel discussion with one chair and up to a maximum of five participants.
Are you new to the Service User space? Check out last year’s programme for an overview of ideas, topics and approaches taken.
If you’d like to access advice or support on your abstract topic or approach, please email your query to cpn-info@unimelb.edu.au and we’ll be in touch. First time presenters are welcome.
Abstract submissions close on Friday, 22 June 2018.
