John Guilaran is a PhD candidate in Psychology at Massey University in Wellington, studying social support in emergency first responders under the New Zealand Aid ASEAN Scholarship programme. John did his MA in Psychology at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, with Clinical Psychology as his area of concentration, and BA (Psychology) at the University of the Philippines Visayas.
John is an alumnus of the Hyogo Institute for Traumatic Stress in Kobe, Japan for a course on Mental Health Services after Disasters in Asia, and of the Psychological Intervention after Disasters Workshop by the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS) in Mianyang, China. On top of being a PhD student, he is a member of the Reference Group of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) Task Force on Terrorism. In the Philippines, he is affiliated with the University of the Philippines Visayas, Iloilo as a faculty member (currently on study leave).
John does a bit of photography during his spare time.
